Longford Park – Flower beds..

First, thanks to everyone who responded wanting to get involved. We will get back to you individually over the next few days.

We wanted to wait until there was some news to share and a timeframe for us to work towards. The Friends of John Leigh Park introduced me to a gardener who worked for Trafford for many years and was involved creating the beds in the picture. He works independently now, and we have asked him to undertake the initial work on re-establishing the beds. This will take 2-3 weeks. At that point we will be able to start work on creating the new beds.

With you, we want to create a group that meets weekly (we thought on Saturday) to create and look after these specific areas. These fall outside Trafford’s current remit and we have spoken to the powers that be and they have Ok’d this.

Realistically, we don’t have the resources (money or time)  to recreate these using annuals, so we thought that perennials would be best. We are keen for this to be a collective effort and we would like to engage group think on any scheme. The cafe will put some money up and, newsflash, so will Eddie @jpbrimelowchorltonanddidsbury (who just kindly agreed to help). We think that this will complete 2.5 beds. If anyone can think of any other local business that may like to help, please let us know. In a perfect world it would be great to do all the flower beds at once.

We think that the first week of May will be a good time to meet initially,  to plan our activity, and then weekly as soon as the beds are reinstated.
