HSBC will close a further 62 bank branches in the UK in 2017,
pointing to the growth of mobile and internet banking.
The bank was singled out in a survey by consumer group Which? in
December as having closed the most branches in 2015 and 2016.

House sales buck trends in busy December |

The number of prospective buyers registered per branch was the
highest in 13 years for the month of December, with an average 386
house hunters registered per branch.
The average number of properties available for sale per branch
rose from 39 in November to 41 in December, this is an 11% increase
from the year before.
Despite heightened interest from potential buyers, the number of
sales agreed dropped by a quarter from November, and in December,
82 per cent of properties were sold under the asking price, a nine
per cent increase compared to December last year when it was 73 per
cent.
Marketing update.
In November we saw a seasonal slowdown; typically its uncommon
for people to buy and move close to Christmas. Yet, our December
findings have completely bucked this seasonal trend. With demand at
an all-time December high and sales to First Time Buyers at their
highest on record, 2016 closed on a positive note following several
months of uncertainty. However, despite an encouraging December,
there remains a clear shortage of homes. We await the governments
housing white paper to see how it intends to tackle this and hope
the market continues to improve for both buyers and sellers.

This is no ordinary opening... A new Marks and Spencer food
store is coming to Chorlton next month.
The popular retailer will open its new premises on the former
Blockbusters on Barlow Moor Road.
It is part of a new direction for one of the nations favourite
brands - which is focusing more of its efforts on smaller food
stores while cutting back on traditional high street fashion.
