Opening just a few weeks into the first Pandemic Lockdown in 2020, Chorlton Cheesemongers were blown away by the support of the local customers and community that has continued to the present, ensuring it remains the thriving independent business it is today. Specialising in a selection of the most exciting and delicious raw milk and pasteurised cheeses currently being made, they focus on cheeses of The British Isles and Ireland, with the addition of some of the best regional examples from around the world, along with complimentary products, and organic seasonal veg and dairy.

Chorlton Cheesemongers aim to give everyone who visits the traditional full service shop a unique and personal experience – ‘It’s a really important part of what makes us different to other shops’ says owner Chris Hallam, ‘We love to sample out every product we sell so customers can try before they buy, discover new tastes and favourites, and share in our knowledge and passion for the unique stories behind our delicious cheeses and the small producers we work with. Here at Chorlton Cheesemongers it is important for us to truly know all about our cheesemakers, who they are, their history and their cheesemaking processes so there is a direct connection from them to you.’

Chorlton Cheesemongers are proud to have won a number of awards and accolades since they opened, including retailer of the year for Manchester Food & Drink Festival, and most recently were named in The Times and Sunday Times ‘7 Best’ series as one of the top Cheese Shops in the UK and a reason to visit the region! They have also been recognised for their work in focusing on sustainability within business, including championing Ethical and Sustainable dairy and regenerative agriculture through the products they sell.
Cheese for All!
As a specialist shop, people might think you have to ‘know’ about cheese before visiting, but Chris is quick to say this isn’t the case – ‘All you have to know is what your taste buds like, and we’ll do the rest! We love hearing what a customer enjoys and then guiding them through the Cheeses that might match on the counter. Giving someone a taste of something they haven’t tried before and watching their eyes light up is one of the best parts of our job.’
Every cheese is cut to order too, so whether you’re looking for a bitesize snack or a stack of full cheeses for a celebration, everything is possible.
