Unicorn Grocery began in 1996 with a simple mission: to make wholesome, affordable food accessible to all, without compromising our ethics. Founded by a small group of co-operators, we’ve grown into one of the UK’s largest and most successful worker-owned co-operatives.

We believe in doing things differently—offering good food at fair prices, working without bosses, and ensuring that every decision reflects our values: ecology, social justice, and co-operation.

From our early days on a shoestring budget to today’s thriving shop, our journey has been shaped by a commitment to ethical sourcing, worker democracy, and community-building.
