Whalley Range Lawn Tennis Club..
Hi Eddie.
A belated Happy New Year to you and all at JP & Brimelow.
I hope you had a lovely break and 2025 was a prosperous one for you all.
Please find below a review of the tennis teams below.
North East Cheshire Winter League 2024/25 season;
There were 4 x Whalley Range teams in the Winter League for 2024-25 season. It was, definitely drier than last season so teams played many of their matches in the months up until Christmas. However, there were some postponements for snow and ice so some teams had matches through to March.
- The 4th team finished in 9th place in division 12.
- The 3rd team finished in 4th place in division 11.
- The 2nd team finished in 9th place in division 6
- The 1st team finished 5th in division 5.
Overall, it was a season of good consolidation with some changes in personnel and some quality young players moved up a level to play in higher teams and divisions.
South West Manchester Summer League 2025:
There were 6 x teams in the Southwest Summer tennis league. Two ladies teams and four men’s teams.
- The ladies first were promoted from division 2, back into division 1 and claiming the division 2 title. This was a convincing win with an 11 point gap between ourselves and 2nd place.
- The ladies seconds finished 3rd in division 4 and missed promotion by 4 points.
- The men’s first team finished second in division 1, behind the champions Croftside A and had a clear four point gap to Albert A, who finished in 3rd place.
- The men’s second team finished in 5th place in division 2, after a difficult start to the season, plagued with injuries.
- The men’s third team finished 8 in division 3 and were relegated to Division 4.
- The men’s fourth team finished 2nd in division 5, after missing out in the last season and were promoted into division 4.
In the Moor Lea cup, Whalley Range were victors again, beating Glossop and brining the cup back home to Whalley Range.
With a lot of young talent coming through the club and the great coaching program, we entered into the Lancashire Youth and National Summer league in the 14 & under boys Division 1 and came runners up ro league champions South Ribble Tennis & Fitness Centre.
The Under 14 boys squad are currently playing in the Cheshire Winter League and have won all the fixtures so far.
The team’s success has been supported with some great squad training with the head coach, Jono Hook. He has been helping them understand more about doubles play.

The support from JP & Brimelow has been greatly appreciated with the continued ball sponsorship and support.
