Why Padel is taking over South Manchester – and we like it..
It feels like Padel courts in South Manchester are suddenly everywhere. Just Google “Padel in South Manchester” and venues pop up all over the map.

It seems Padel has arrived in Manchester and shows no sign of being no more than a fad – but why?
A sport you can pick up in one session
One of the biggest reasons padel is booming locally is that it is genuinely easy to learn. You do not need a tennis background or a personal trainer to feel competent on court. The smaller space, solid bats and glass walls mean the ball stays in play longer, so even total beginners can get into a rally really quickly. That makes it ideal for mixed-ability groups, couples and friends who want to do something active together without anyone feeling out of their depth.
Some venues you need to join as a member, such as The Northern Lawn Tennis Club, in Didsbury, which now has covered padel courts, and at others, such as The Padel Club in Trafford (which also has venues in Wilmslow, Chester, Liverpool, Handforth and coming soon in Knutsford), you can you can simply book online, turn up in trainers, hire racquets and be playing a proper game before your warm up is even finished.

Social fitness that actually sticks
I recently wrote about Workout Socialising, and padel is the perfect example of this. Because it is almost always played in doubles, it feels more like a social event than a serious training session. You are chatting between points, laughing at the ricochets off the glass and celebrating the occasional spectacular shot.
Clubs and venues are leaning into that social side. Manchester Padel Club’s community focus makes it easy to find playing partners and join social sessions while The Padel Club clubhouse offers cocktails and coffees and is even dog-friendly.
Perfect for busy urban lives
Padel suits packed schedules. Matches are short, intense and easy to find room for after work without becoming a chore. Even better, you don’t need to commit to a ‘season’ to join in. You play when you want, booking a court with friends or attending social sessions, which most clubs run, as well as beginners’ evenings to help you up your game..

And because Padel is a sport that doesn’t require opponents to be evenly matched, it’s great for families – so you can all head to the courts for some fun fitness, instead of heading in different directions while juggling childcare.
An antidote to gym fatigue
For anyone bored of the treadmill or uninspired by another HIIT class, padel offers a different kind of workout. Essentially, it’s just good fun. You walk off court flushed and out of breath, but it never quite feels like “exercise”. There’s too much laughing happening.

With high quality courts at The Northern, Destination Padel, Soul Padel in Stockport and major hubs like Pure Padel, South Manchester residents now have world-class facilities on their doorstep. If you have spotted those coloured courts and glass walls popping up near you, this might be the perfect time to grab a racquet, book a local court and see what all the fuss is about.
