Swig Coffee, Stretford. A Little Coffee Shop Making a Big Impression..
From a tiny coffee van to Swig HQ
There’s something rather special about discovering a great independent business before everyone else does.
For coffee lovers around Stretford and South Manchester, Swig Coffee is quickly becoming one of those places.
Swig started life in a very small way with Betsy, the little coffee van parked near Chorlton Ees, serving properly good coffee to walkers, locals and anyone looking for a friendly face and a quality cup before heading into the woods.

It was simple, personal and clearly built around a genuine passion for coffee.
And it worked.
A loyal following soon developed, with customers returning not just for the coffee but for the friendly conversations and relaxed atmosphere that owner Kai has created around the business.
Now Swig has taken its next exciting step with the opening of its first bricks-and-mortar location Swig HQ in Stretford.
From the van to a new home
The move into a permanent space doesn’t feel like a reinvention of Swig. In fact, it’s quite the opposite.
It feels like a natural progression.
The same attention to detail, the same friendly approach and, most importantly, the same passion for making a genuinely good cup of coffee are now available with a little more space to sit, relax and enjoy it.
And if you’re serious about your coffee, you’ll appreciate what Swig is all about.
The espresso is carefully prepared, the latte art shows real skill and there’s a clear focus on getting the fundamentals right.
No unnecessary fuss.
Just really good coffee, done properly.
Quality in every cup
Swig keeps its coffee offering considered and focused, working with respected independent roasters including Kickback Coffee.
The result is a menu that puts the coffee firmly centre stage, with clean flavours, balanced brews and a real emphasis on consistency.
There are also some lovely bakes available to accompany your drink — because let’s be honest, a great coffee and a good bake are difficult to beat!
But the coffee remains the star.
A relaxed place to stop
The beauty of Swig HQ is that it doesn’t try too hard.

The space is understated, welcoming and relaxed. You can pop in for a quick coffee on your way somewhere, meet a friend, or simply sit down and enjoy a little bit of time away from the busy pace of everyday life.
And perhaps that’s what makes Swig feel so familiar.
It has retained the personality that made the original van so popular.
Small business. Big passion. Great coffee.
Supporting independent businesses
At JP & Brimelow, we love discovering and supporting independent businesses across South Manchester.
They are such an important part of what makes places like Stretford, Chorlton and the surrounding communities so vibrant.
Swig is a great example of how a small idea, built around quality and a genuine connection with customers, can grow into something bigger without losing what made it special in the first place.
From Betsy by the Ees to Swig HQ in Stretford, it’s a brilliant little local success story.
So, if you haven’t tried Swig yet, why not make it your next coffee stop?
Grab a coffee, enjoy a bake, have a chat with Kai and the team. See what all the fuss is about.
Eddie’s verdict?
A quiet success story, brewed slowly and done properly.
And that’s something worth raising a cup to.
