At JP & Brimelow, we love discovering independent businesses that are making a real difference in our local communities and Precinct in Gorse Hill, Stretford, is exactly that.

Opened in April 2026, Precinct is an independent coffee and provisions shop with a simple idea at its heart: great coffee, good food and brilliant local produce, right on the doorstep of the local community.

And what makes the story even better is how it all started.

Created on a shoestring budget, with little more than a £25 drill, Precinct has quickly developed into a welcoming neighbourhood spot where people can grab a properly good coffee, pick up something delicious for dinner, discover something new or simply stop for a chat.

The name Precinct is a nod to Stretford’s past, taking its inspiration from the now-demolished Stretford Precinct. It’s a lovely connection between the area’s history and its exciting future.

MORE THAN JUST A COFFEE SHOP

Walk through the doors and you’ll find much more than coffee.

The shelves are packed with fresh and organic fruit and vegetables, independent and locally made produce, homemade cakes, bread from Manchester bakery Holy Grain, speciality coffee and plenty of those little things you didn’t know you needed until you spotted them!

It’s the sort of place where you can pop in for one thing and leave with five and probably a coffee in your hand too!

But perhaps what makes Precinct really special is its community feel.

Independent businesses like this bring personality to an area. They create places where people meet, conversations happen and local connections are made. They’re part of what makes a neighbourhood feel like a neighbourhood.

Gorse Hill and Stretford have plenty going for them, and it’s fantastic to see new independent businesses investing their time, energy and passion into the area.
