Meet our local sports team..

We have had a number of success stories at the club from both the Northeast Cheshire winter tennis league and also the South West Manchester Tennis league.

Firstly, thanks for the continued ball sponsorship for the competitive matches at the club.

North East Cheshire Tennis league 2023/2024:

We had four teams in the league and there was success for again for the 3rd team with a promotion for Tim Manley and his squad.

The 1st and 2nd teams remained in their divisions with the team just missing out on promotion and the 4th team gained promotion with some up and coming talented players at the club.

South West Manchester Summer Tennis league 2024:

Ladies team update:

The ladies 2nd team finished in 5th place in division 3. Steady play from the whole squad and thanks to Debbie Jordan (captain)

The ladies 1st team were relegated from division 1. With many injuries and examinations taking place at during the match season, has a knock-on effect.

They are looking to bounce back and rejoin the 1st division next season. Thanks to Sarah Crooks & Louise Haslam, joint captains.

Men’s team update:

We had four men’s teams in league this year.

The men’s 1st team had a very competitive season with some exceptional teams in the division this year. They finished 2nd in division 1. Thanks to the squad captain Matt Evans.

The men’s 2nd team had a very difficult season in in division 2 after being promoted after a team dropped out of the league. They were in the relegation zone for quite some time, but after some group team training and some soul searching, the team finished in 4th . Thanks to the squad captain Rob Clarke.

The men’s 3rd team were champions again this year and were promoted from division 5 to division 4 and another trophy for Tim Manley and his squad. Thats another 2 trophy’s for the 2023/24 season.

We entered a men’s 4th team after the uptake of new members. The squad was led by Louis Ramsden, a former junior at the club and returned back to play some competitive tennis. He had a great start to the season running first up until they encounter a team that was formerly in division 3 and had to start again in the bottom division. They fought all the way until the end of the season and avoided using players from the squads in the higher division. He stuck with his principles and finished a commendable 3rd

Newly  Appointed head coach – Jono Hook:

Jono Hook took the helm after Simon Wood (head coach) decided to pursue other opportunities away from tennis and the club.

Jono has over 26 years of coaching tennis and is a level 4 performance coach, which has reflected in the style of play adapted to match situations, which the teams found very useful.

Jono has also helped developed team performance coaching for the adults and has this season developed an number of opportunities for the juniors and getting them prepared for match play.

The juniors have been entered into the Northeast Cheshire Winter league for 2024/25 and will also be entered into the Cheshire Summer league for the 2025 season.

We have had some success with one of the juniors. George took part in the Star Tennis Green ball Under 10 Match play tournament at Prestbury Village Tennis club and he won.

Thanks again for your continued support and engagement with the club and with 2025 we will be looking to obtain more success for the adult tennis in both leagues and with the junior performances squads.

Have a Merry Christmas and a great 2025 to you and the team.

Regards
