Support Local Students & Sport at St Margaret’s Primary School in Whalley Range..

I was appointed the new PE Lead in January and, having already started a girls’ football team when I joined the school, I knew I wanted to keep making a positive impact.

When taking students to matches, I began to notice that our kit was old, mismatched, and didn’t reflect who we are as a proud, successful school team boys and girls alike. Around the same time, I had also just moved home, and JP & Brimelow were the estate agents we bought through. When we went to pick up the keys, I noticed a display of sports/football shirts on their office wall, proudly hanging there. I remember thinking: how do I get our school up there?

I sent an email to JP & Brimelow in the hope that we might be able to secure some kind of sponsorship for our teams, anything at all to help. Eddie replied, and we arranged for him to visit the school, meet some of our students, have a tour, and discuss what might be possible.

Eddie was greeted by me and two students from our boys’ and girls’ football teams, who were keen to show off our impressive trophy display. I then gave him a tour of the school, and we headed outside at lunchtime, where Coach Henry spoke about how important sport is to us, how we’ve built a culture that is active, inclusive, and full of pride.

We were truly blown away by Eddie’s generosity. For the kit reveal, we invited him to present it during an assembly. When he arrived, he didn’t just bring the new kits, he also brought rain jackets, footballs, and water bottles.

During the assembly, I was almost speechless, but I managed to convey just how much this opportunity and this support means to our students. Throughout the day, students came to thank me and asked me to pass on their gratitude to JP & Brimelow.

Excitingly, the boys’ team had an away match that very afternoon and were able to wear the new kits for the first time they won 8–1. Maybe they would have won in the old kit, or perhaps this new, special kit gave them an extra edge.

What we do know is this: we now not only play the part, we look it too.

Kind regards,

Kate Sargent
