Five Holiday-Inspired Interior Ideas to Refresh Your Home This Summer..

Summer has a way of slowing things down.

Morning coffee in the garden. Fresh flowers on the kitchen table. Windows open throughout the house. Small moments that make home feel a little different from the rest of the year.

It’s also the time of year when many of us start thinking about refreshing our homes. Not with a major renovation, but with small changes that help us make the most of the season.

Rather than following the latest trend, I often look to places that people return to year after year. Not because of the hotels or the Instagram photos, but because of how those places make them feel.

Here are five destinations that offer plenty of inspiration for creating a home that feels good this summer.

Ibiza: Slow Down

The best parts of Ibiza aren’t always the ones that make the headlines.

It’s the quiet morning coffee on a terrace. The simplicity of whitewashed walls and natural materials. The feeling that life can slow down for a while.

To bring a little Ibiza into your home:

  • Introduce linen, rattan and natural textures
  • Keep surfaces uncluttered
  • Use soft whites, sandy neutrals and warm stone tones
  • Add handmade ceramics or woven baskets

The aim isn’t perfection. It’s creating a space that feels calm and easy to spend time in.

The South of France: Gather Together

One of the things I love about the South of France is how much life seems to revolve around sharing meals, spending time outdoors and making everyday moments feel special.

The interiors reflect that too. Relaxed, welcoming and never overly formal.

To capture some of that feeling:

  • Style the dining table with fresh flowers or greenery
  • Add linen tablecloths and napkins
  • Use terracotta pots indoors or out
  • Introduce soft olive greens and warm neutrals

Sometimes the most inviting rooms are the ones that feel lived in rather than perfectly styled.

Lake Garda: Keep Things Simple

Lake Garda has a timeless quality that I think translates beautifully into interiors.

Nothing feels forced. Homes often feature natural materials, understated colours and pieces that have been chosen to last.

To take inspiration from the Italian lakes:

  • Choose natural wood furniture where possible
  • Add pottery and handcrafted pieces
  • Bring in plenty of plants
  • Stick to a palette inspired by nature

It’s a reminder that homes don’t need to follow every trend to feel beautiful.

Morocco: Add Warmth

Moroccan interiors are full of character, craftsmanship and warmth.

Beautiful tiles, textured walls, rich colours and carefully made pieces create spaces that feel welcoming from the moment you step inside.

A few ways to bring that feeling home:

  • Introduce terracotta accessories
  • Add a statement lamp or brass accent
  • Layer textiles and texture
  • Consider handmade tiles in a kitchen or bathroom

You don’t need to redecorate an entire room. One or two thoughtful additions can completely change the atmosphere.

Miami: Have a Little Fun

Not every room needs to be serious.

One of the things Miami does brilliantly is embrace colour, personality and optimism.

For a more subtle take on the look:

  • Add a curved chair or occasional table
  • Introduce a soft coral or peach accent
  • Use sculptural lighting
  • Bring in larger leafy plants

A touch of playfulness can make a space feel fresh and uplifting for summer.

Start with the Feeling

When people return from holiday, they rarely talk about the paint colours or furniture.

They talk about how they felt.

Relaxed. Connected. Inspired. Rested.

The same is true of our homes.

So rather than trying to recreate a destination exactly, think about the feeling you’d like your home to give you this summer. Whether that’s the calm of Ibiza, the warmth of Morocco or the easy-going charm of Lake Garda, a few small changes can go a surprisingly long way.

And if you’re anything like me, that’s often enough to make an ordinary summer evening feel a little bit special.
