Time for people. Space for ideas. That’s why we created Common Practice..

We’re Tom and Yan, the two friends behind Common Practice, a small RIBA Chartered architecture practice working across the Northwest.

We are gradually building a strong reputation in south Manchester and the wider region for delivering projects with personality. Tom is based in Chorlton and Yan in Sale, so we know the area, the houses, the neighbourhoods and, importantly, the people who make them what they are.  After over 15-years of working at other practices in the region, we wanted to create a studio where projects could have more time and care poured into them, time to listen properly, explore ideas and work out how to genuinely make a difference.

We work with local homeowners and businesses on everything from home extensions and renovations to new-build homes and commercial projects. Crucially, our projects have personality, we design buildings that respond and reflect to the people using them.  For homeowners, that might mean transforming a tired house into somewhere that really works for family life. For a local business, it could be creating a space that reflects who you are and lets your business thrive.

Whatever the project, we think good architecture starts with an open conversation. We’ll bring the design experience and technical know-how, but we’ll also take the time to understand what matters to you, explain the jargon and guide you through the process.

We’re proud to be part of the local community and always happy to have a chat about a project, whether it’s just an idea you’ve been thinking about or something you’re ready to get started on, feel free to give us a call.
